Did you know that hundreds of litres of water are used in the processing of just one kilogram of wet processed or "washed" coffees? This brief video was taken at a large co-op in Costa Rica that uses this washed process to produce the typically clean tasting Arabica coffees of this area. Being the last harvest of the season, trees have been stripped of all remaining cherries (ripe or not!) and this is the low grade end of the crop mostly used in instant coffee production. Nevertheless we see the rigorous series of cleaning and sorting processes that the coffee beans pass through on their way to market.
