ABOUT AUCTION FOR PEACE
The Colombia Auction For Peace was help in Argelia, Cauca, Colombia in November 2024. This auction was the very first happening of a new Colombian Government initiative to reduce cocoa plantations and drug trafficking in the region. It is the first time in Colombian history that the government has spent money to promote the production of specialty coffee. Ultimately, the goal is to incentivise and promote the growing of coffee rather than drugs in a bid to bring peace to the area as well as prosperity.
The entire event was organised by ASECC (translated to Colombia Association for Coffee Excellence) and proudly supported by our close partners, Forest Coffee. Our very own Head Of Coffee Aryan Aqajani was invited to Colombia to participate in the auction, alongside buyers from countries across the world! The buyers had their trips paid for and organised by ASECC, illustrating the amazing desire for the Colombian government to create change. During the event, the Colombian military was used to escort attendees throughout the city!
The auction began with 35 coffees from producers from the surrounding region. The winning coffee? Purchased by our friends Forest Coffee for a record $125/lb USD!! This is a record breaking result for auctions in Colombia where multiple producers where competed like COE (Cup Of Excellence) style.
