This is one of two Sumatran/Indonesian coffees that our Head Of Coffee, Aryan Aqajani, would love to share with you! It all began when he tasted this Anaerobic Honey coffee from OMA coffee roasters early last year, claiming it was the best Indonesian coffee he had had. That year, at Melbourne Internation Coffee Exhibition, Aryan met Micheal from Indonesia Coffee Merchants )(importer) and sent him on his way to find the same coffee and bring it to us!
Now, we are here with the goods!
Abdul Aziz Tohari is somewhat of a legend in Sumatra with his greatest accolade being the 9th winner of COE Sumatra!
Abdul is the driving force behind Rukun Saudara Cooperative, from the mist-covered highlands of Kerinci, Sumatra. Here, he brings togeter 50 smallholder farmers who all grow their coffee on the fertile soils of Mount Kerinci, Indonesia's highest volcano.
This particular lot undergoes a delicate honey anaerobic process which enables sweet notes like plum with acidity like lemonade. The cherries are pulped to a certain level after picking, and sealed in tanks to ferment. The coffee is then dried in the Indonesia sun as a honey processed coffee.
