This is one of two Sumatran/Indonesian coffees that our Head Of Coffee, Aryan Aqajani, would love to share with you!
It all began when he tasted a coffee OMA coffee roasters early last year (the Anaerobic Honey we offered a little earlier in the year). Aryan claimed it was the best Indonesian coffee he had had. That year, at Melbourne Internation Coffee Exhibition, Aryan met Micheal from Indonesia Coffee Merchants (importer) and sent him on his way to find the same coffee and bring it to us!
Now, we are here with the goods!
When Micheal brought us his findings, he also had this funky and boozy mossto coffee from Abdul too. Now, we're not sure what our best Indonesian coffee is!
Abdul Aziz Tohari is somewhat of a legend in Sumatra with his greatest accolade being the 9th winner of COE Sumatra!
Abdul is the driving force behind Rukun Saudara Cooperative, from the mist-covered highlands of Kerinci, Sumatra. Here, he brings togeter 50 smallholder farmers who all grow their coffee on the fertile soils of Mount Kerinci, Indonesia's highest volcano.
For this lot, the cherries are mixed with Mossto, a liquid by-product of past coffee fermentations, while they ferment. This process build deep and rich flavours. The coffee is then dried as a natural.
