The Idido Washing Station is in the Idido Village in Yirgacheffe. 1200 farmers deliver their cherry from surrounding Idido, Aricha, Worka Chelbessa and Halabariti. The washing starion is operated by Ardent Coffee Exporter.
At this washing station, the team curates the Malebo Project - a coffee line specifically made up of Grade 1 coffee from the Idido area. This project was this washing stations only washed coffee from the 25/26 harvest.
Another factor that seperates this lot from traditional Ethiopian coffees is that it comes from a 'day lot', meaning all the cherries for the lot where harvested on the same day.
The coffee is delivered by Idido farmers, before being hand sorted. It is then depulped, fermented in open tanks for 8-12 hours, washed to remove the mucilage and finally dried for 18 days. The coffee is then rested, before milling once the coffee reaches a consistent moisture content of 11.2%.
And finally, $0.10 per pound of the malebo Projects processds suport the Ardent Children Center (a lcoal orphanage). So your drip bag you drink in the Australian wilderness is supporting orphaned children in Ethiopia!
