Karimikui AA comes from the southern slopes of Mt. Kenya in Kirinyaga, where members of the Rungeto Farmers Co-operative Society grow SL28 and SL34 at elevations of 1,700 to 1,800 metres. The area sits within a densely populated tea-growing zone, with cool temperatures, reliable rainfall and rich red volcanic soils creating ideal conditions for producing clean, structured and expressive coffees. The cooperative also works closely with its members through agronomy training and regular farm visits, helping maintain quality standards across the surrounding smallholder farms.
Once picked, ripe cherries are delivered to the Karimikui Factory for same-day processing, helping minimise spoilage and preserve quality. The coffee is pulped, fermented overnight, thoroughly washed and then sun-dried on raised African beds, where it is continuously turned and sorted by hand. Beyond processing, the factory supports its farming community through access to farm inputs, cash advances and pre-financing for needs such as school fees and emergencies. Its recirculation system, soak pits and tree-planting initiatives also reflect an ongoing focus on more responsible water use and sustainable production.
