ABOUT AUCTION FOR PEACE

The Colombia Auction For Peace was help in Argelia, Cauca, Colombia in November 2024. This auction was the very first happening of a new Colombian Government initiative to reduce cocoa plantations and drug trafficking in the region. It is the first time in Colombian history that the government has spent money to promote the production of specialty coffee. Ultimately, the goal is to incentivise and promote the growing of coffee rather than drugs in a bid to bring peace to the area as well as prosperity.

The entire event was organised by ASECC (translated to Colombia Association for Coffee Excellence) and proudly supported by our close partners, Forest Coffee. Our very own Head Of Coffee Aryan Aqajani was invited to Colombia to participate in the auction, alongside buyers from countries across the world! The buyers had their trips paid for and organised by ASECC, illustrating the amazing desire for the Colombian government to create change. During the event, the Colombian military was used to escort attendees throughout the city!

The auction began with 35 coffees from producers from the surrounding region. The winning coffee? Purchased by our friends Forest Coffee for a record $125/lb USD!! This is a record breaking result for auctions in Colombia where multiple producers where competed like COE (Cup Of Excellence) style.

AND WE HAVE SOME FOR YOU!

INTRODUCING Jefferson Andres Bolanos Auction For Peace Lot 1

Zest bought 2kg of this lot from Forest Coffee. There was 78kg in total. It was split between 12 other buyers from USA, UK, France, Poland, Portugal, UAE, Philippine, Netherlands, Romania.

Jefferson is a 33 year old farmer working full time in coffee since he was 26. His farm is called La Yunga in Bolivar, Cauca, Colombia. This particular stunning lot is the world-famous Geisha variety processed as a traditional washed coffee. It’s unique varietals like Geisha that excites Jefferson – ‘What I’m passionate about in coffee growing is being able to constantly improve. I had been growing more traditional coffees, but with these new varieties, what I’ve enjoyed most is being able to be at the forefront and doing research’

Jefferson is also a key promoter of the Auction For Peace initiative, and also for the recognition of coffee grown in his homeland, Bolivar.

‘When they announced that I had the most expensive coffee, I couldn’t believe it, as it was a great joy for me to know that there were fifteen other people competing to have the best coffee in Cauca. When they called me, I was very excited because for the first time we had achieved something. I’m proud to represent Bolívar, my homeland.’

‘For the new generations, I advise them to start growing coffee, since we are in the best country to do so. It’s time to invest in coffee and change our way of thinking. We shouldn’t live off illicit crops, but rather focus on specialty coffees, because there are people who will pay what we deserve,’ – Jefferson Andres Bolanos

Zest is proud to be one of them, and are exited to bring you this incredibly special nano-lot.
